Our Service Follows Boen Installation Recommendations

There are various ways to install Boen Engineered Flooring. Among them, the most commonly used are 1) Floating 2) Nailing Down and 3) Glue Down installation methods. Let’s explore them one by one!

Floating

The floating technique is used for the installation of all types of sub-flooring, including old loose concrete, thin carpet, and concrete sub-flooring with an uncertain/variable moisture content. Before the installation, it is important to perform a simple leveling of the subfloor. Here, you should know that the requirements of the sub-floor are very less critical when you use the floating system than those that are required for the method of glue down installation. Floating method is easy for both the craftsmen/professionals and Do-it-yourself alike.

In addition, the quality of wooden flooring adhesive used is significantly reduced as it is required only for the connection between groove and tongue. The performance and visual effect of the wooden floor are more and more even since such floating floors appear as single sheets and any contraction/expansion occurs at the floor’s perimeter.

Nailing Down

A nailed down floor can considerably experience individual contraction/expansion of each floorboard and in dry climates, this may lead to small gaps between the boards. It is important and/or absolutely necessary to have an “even” sub-floor. For instance, if the sub-floor is not “even,” it can significantly lead to damage to the groove and tongue connection. So, in this regard, the nailing down method can avoid gaps and protect the wood from damage (created by moisture), discoloration, etc.

Glue Down

Craftsmanship has developed, improved, and enhanced substantially with respect to this installation method. One of the primary advantages of Glue Down installation method is the complete stability under the pressure-points, for instance, pianos, heavy closets, and/or very heavy furniture. The function of groove and tongue that hold the boards together become less important. This means that this method of installation does not display weakness or movement.

Moreover, the step-sound is significantly reduced, which means that the sound is appropriately absorbed by the sub-floor. Likewise, if we install the sub-floor heating, a glued down flooring product will give lesser resistance to the transfer of heat as compared to the floating system. However, it is essential to adhere to certain rules and instructions where sub-floor heating is installed. Humidity does not have immediate effects on the glued down then the floating floors.

From the expert designer point of view, the glue down installation solutions are often recommended when there is a need for the installation of floors on stairs, through narrows doorways, as well as in adjoining rooms without needing doorsills or any other type of molding.

Boen Grading System

Wood is a product of nature – each tree has its own structure and individual colour combination. An image or a sample will therefore never be able to give you a complete picture of the finished floor. Please also note that the colour may change when exposed to light. As a guideline, darker wood species will get a more golden tone, whereas lighter species will become slightly darker. Cracked knots are filled with putty, the occurrence of small gaps between the putty and wood may appear.
